Elcomm Caucasus – International platform for the industry<\/p>\n

3rd International Energy, Power and\u00a0Telecommunications Exhibition combines entire sector into a single event, presenting\u00a0products and services of energy and power,\u00a0electrical engineering, distribution and control,\u00a0telecommunication and information technology. The event will be held on November 9-11, 2016, at the exhibition center Expo Georgia fairground.<\/p>\n

Energy sector in Georgia represents one of the most\u00a0attractive investment opportunities in the country. New, more\u00a0liberal laws made investment and project development in\u00a0energy sector easier and in 2013 the government\u00a0started a new stage of development, which aims to\u00a0create a fully competitive market structure and\u00a0synchronize regulations with EU standards. Also due to increased electricity consumption\u00a0over past 5 years, additional resources became\u00a0required to satisfy local demand and Georgia\u00a0began reaching its goal to become\u00a0a regional hub for electricity transit among its\u00a0neighbors. The industry is growing rapidly and\u00a0it\u2019s poised to grow even further alongside country\u2019s economic growth.<\/p>\n

HYDRO POWER<\/p>\n

Hydro power dominates electricity generation in\u00a0Georgia. 7 new hydro power stations were built with\u00a0total turnover 696.4 KWH\u00a0per year<\/span>, it\u2019s planned to\u00a0build 82 new hydro power stations. 22 hydro plants\u00a0are currently under construction and 72 small\u00a0and medium hydro plants are already signed for\u00a0construction, the ministry of energy has additional\u00a080 HPP projects available for investment.<\/p>\n

LOCAL DISTRIBUTION<\/span><\/p>\n

Current electricity production represents only\u00a040% of Georgia\u2019s estimated annual hydro power\u00a0output potential, which gives a huge opportunity\u00a0for growth and development, while the electricity\u00a0prices are rising and the consumption is growing\u00a0faster than the production, additional resources\u00a0are needed and fast, throughout the last couple\u00a0of years the government made the increase of\u00a0production priority and numerous projects are\u00a0planned for near future.<\/p>\n

RENEWABLE ENERGY<\/span><\/p>\n

Since generation capacities are still falling\u00a0short of growing consumption and the country increases\u00a0import of\u00a0electricity\u00a0<\/span>during the deficit in winter, new opportunities for renewable energy\u00a0have been addressed to fill in the shortage and\u00a0satisfy the demand with local production\u00a0during the period of deficit. In winter besides of the import,\u00a0Georgia depends of Thermal Power Plants,\u00a0for the first time in 2015, the government\u00a0began building a new Wind Power Plants.<\/p>\n

EXPORT<\/span><\/p>\n

Georgia\u2019s output at HPPs is seasonal it peaks in\u00a0summer and falls in winter, during the summer\u00a0time Georgia exports the electricity to turkey,\u00a0which experiences deficit in summer. With new projects in development and\u00a0increased output in electricity, country\u2019s exporting\u00a0capabilities will increase and new markets may\u00a0become available for the industry.<\/p>\n

TRANSIT<\/span><\/p>\n

Georgia plans to become a regional hub for\u00a0electricity transit, the country has the ability to\u00a0transmit Russian and Azeri electricity to Turkey\u00a0and Russian electricity to Iran through Armenia.\u00a0Also Georgia is a transit corridor for Caspian oil to\u00a0European markets.\u00a0Under the framework of Black Sea\u00a0Transmission Network (BSTN), two 350MW HVDC\u00a0back-to-back links and new Meskheti line\u00a0connecting Georgia and Turkey, were completed\u00a0in 2013. Georgia is the first country to install\u00a0such links, which guarantees a stable exchange\u00a0of electricity and strengthens Georgia\u2019s potential\u00a0to become a hub for electricity transit from Russia and\u00a0Azerbaijan to Turkey.<\/p>\n

OTHER REGIONAL MARKETS<\/span><\/p>\n

Georgia as a center of Caucasian region has\u00a0the best geo-political location for becoming an\u00a0international hub for the industry in the region with\u00a0total population of more than 20 million people. Centered between Russia, Turkey, Azerbaijan and\u00a0Armenia with Iranian border very close through\u00a0Armenia, Georgia becomes the only country which\u00a0can effectively provide a transit corridor for energy sector in Caucasus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
